Fishing for Walleye (Pickeral) on the French River

Known for their flakey, white fillets, walleye are a favorite with French River anglers. They are tough to find during the day, moving deeper in the water. From dusk till dawn they get more active as they feed just off the weed beds. Crank baits and night crawlers will get their attention. Minnows are the bait of choice in the fall.

Great news for French River Walleye fishing enthusiasts.
After the most recent Fall Wallete Index Netting assessment by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the slot size (must be released) for walleye has changed to 40cm to 60cm (15.75" to 23.6"), allowing anglers to keep more fish. Limits on the number of fish allowed depend on the type of fishing license purchased.
